Who We Are
Danphey began as a whisper in the mountains—an idea carried by the wind that moves through pine forests and forgotten villages of Uttarakhand. For years, these hills have watched families leave, migration happening, villages becoming so empty that they are now labelled as ghost villages, forests burning due to fallen Pirul, and traditions fade. But they have also held on to something powerful: resilient women, old wisdom, and the quiet strength of nature.
Our story starts with them.
Walking through Almora’s forests, we saw what most people overlooked—wild nettle, sturdy hemp, and carpets of fallen pine leaves that spark forest fires every summer. What if these could be more than forest waste?
What if they could become opportunity?
That question became Danphey.
Today, we work with women-led groups and rural artisans who transform these raw, local materials into sustainable clothing, accessories, packaging, and paper products—each piece a testament to patience, skill, and hope.
Every product you hold has travelled through hands that have nurtured forests, raised families, and kept their villages alive. Every fibre tells a story of the mountains—of fire turned into craft, of wild grasses turned into fabric, of women turning challenges into dignity.
Danphey is named after the Himalayan Monal—the bird that represents the spirit of our hills: colourful, grounded, and unafraid to rise.
And that is what we aspire to be.
Welcome to Danphey.
Where the mountains craft the story, and we simply help it be told.
